First, this may not be a groundbreaking idea, taking leftovers from the fridge and making a soup or stew out of them. What do I think the interesting part of the leftovers soup recipe is? That there is an easy-to-follow no-fail formula to put it together. The key to this soup is homemade broth. You can get a free, fantastic recipe for Raise the Dead Chicken Broth. If you are unable to make your own broth, check out the free recipe for Quick Broth.

Leftovers soup recipe method:
Heat up pot on medium-high heat. Add the Fat you chose and melt. Add the Vegetable(s) you chose to sauté and cook until softened. At this point you optionally add about ½ to 1 cup of wine to deglaze the pot.
Add the Liquid, the Additional Vegetables and/or Starch, Spices, and bring to a simmer (just below a boil). Add the Meat or Leftovers and cook until just heated through, do not boil. Add salt and pepper to taste. Take the pot off the heat and add Add-Ons either in the pot or in bowls. Serve and enjoy!

Tell us about your leftovers soup ideas?
I roast a whole chicken about once every seven to ten days so here is an example of the type of soup I put together all the time: I take (Fat) chicken fat and some lard to equal ¼ cup, (Vegetables) sauté onions, carrots and celery, add (Liquid) chicken broth and tomato paste, (Additional Vegetable) add spinach, (Spices) add Italian Seasoning and garlic, and then (Meat) leftover chicken. After it is warmed through, I top with (Add-Ons) shredded cheese. That transforms boring old chicken into a completely new dish!
